This month’s At Home will be held at “the dollhouse,” the cottage adjacent to Cabrini Park. Also known as the La Rionda House, this Creole cottage was built in 1810, which means that the house is celebrating its

200th birthday!

Lovingly restored by Jon Kemp and John Reed, the La Rionda house is one of the finest examples of Creole architecture in the city of New Orleans. The main house is a typical four-square room layout, with the cabinets and loggia in the rear overlooking a large courtyard. Beyond that is the slave quarters, which now houses two bedrooms, a library, and a kitchenette. Behind that is a vast yard, which one housed the city’s first school for African-American children. One of the features that makes this whole property so wonderful is the easy flow between indoor and outdoor spaces.

So cap off your French Quarter Friday with a real treat – the dollhouse’s 200th birthday!

As always, we’ll be offering wine, nibbles, and great company. Members get in for $5, non-members for $10, and anyone joining that evening gets in FREE!

Please join VCPORA at the fifth in our "At Home in the Vieux Carre" series this Friday! These events rotate monthly to various private homes in the French Quarter, and offer attendees from the Quarter and across the city a glimpse into private French Quarter residences. This month we're featuring the beautiful home of Betty and Bill Norris at 1009 St. Philip Street. At just under 1000 sf, it's a jewel box of a house, and once you see how well laid-out and livable it is, you'll wonder why you ever thought you needed more space! So come by to learn about the home, life in the Quarter, see the tranquil courtyard, and make new friends. As always, we'll serve wine and nibbles.

VCPORA Launches "At Home in the Vieux Carre!"

VCPORA invites you to
At Home in the Vieux Carre

Friday, October 16 5:30 - 7:00 825 Royal Street

VCPORA is pleased to announce the kick off of our new event, "At Home in the Vieux Carre." This series will rotate monthly to various private homes in the French Quarter, and offers attendees from the Quarter and across the city a glimpse inside private French Quarter residences. Our inaugural event will be held at 825 Royal Street. This gorgeous home is a brick Creole townhouse tucked away behind busy Royal Street, and fronted by a magnificent courtyard (see photo below).

The goal of the series is to showcase the livability of the city's first neighborhood, to foster appreciation for the Quarter as a residential area, and perhaps even to recruit some new residents!

At Home will be held on the third Friday of every month except February, and are timed so that attendees can make a night of it by having dinner afterwards at one of the Quarter's many offerings.

Admission is $5 for VCPORA members, $10 for non-members, and anyone joining at the event will receive free admission! Light refreshments are included.
