Schwartz-Gage Award Goes to Stuart H. Smith

VCPORA Names Stuart H. Smith
as Recipient of the Schwartz-Gage Award

Awards dinner to be held Sunday, May 15 at 7 p.m.
at Broussard's Restaurant

As members and friends of VCPORA, we all play a part in protecting the French Quarter – we keep abreast of preservation and governance issues;  we respond to calls for action by making calls and attending meetings; we work with the Vieux Carré Commission to maintain the neighborhood’s integrity; and we offer our thanks to those who help us.

We also have to deal with a multitude of legal issues, ranging from the simple to the complex.  And in many cases, that requires professional legal minds to guide us and to take action.

For years, VCPORA has been able to count on a man who’s led innumerable legal battles on our behalf, and on behalf of the Quarter - and done all of it pro bono.

That man is Stuart H. Smith – our neighbor, our benefactor, and a man of courage and capability who’s been a passionate advocate on behalf of the Vieux Carré.

Stuart was the unanimous choice to be the recipient of this year’s Schwartz Gage Preservation Award.  The award, which VCPORA bestows on someone who’s shown exemplary dedication, leadership, and commitment to the French Quarter, is given out only once every two years.  It’s named for two remarkable sisters, Eugenie Schwartz and Grace Gage, whose decades of work to protect and preserve the Vieux Carré left a legacy that still benefits us today.

Please join us at the 2011 Schwartz-Gage Award dinner on Sunday, May 15 at 7 p.m. at Broussard’s Restaurant to demonstrate your appreciation to Stuart for all of his work!

VCPORA's Annual Mothers' Day Concert

featuring
The New Leviathan Oriental Foxtrot Orchestra

SUNDAY, May 8  4 – 7 p.m.

In what has become quite the annual tradition, VCPORA will once again host the Mothers’ Day Concert in Cabrini Park.  And as always, we’ll feature the
New Leviathan Oriental Foxtrot Orchestra.  Bring your chairs, picnics,
dancing shoes, and of course, Mom!

Additionally, we'll be raffling off this gorgeous original painting by French Quarter resident and artist Ann Strub!

This event is FREE and open to the public, so please invite your friends and neighbors, no matter where they live.  This is VCPORA’s gift to the neighborhood!

We’d like to offer special thanks to Carol Fleischman and Wayne Wilkinson, whose volunteer efforts this year and in years past have made the event possible.

Our very deep appreciation goes to Terminix, Terry Bruno and Vincent Palumbo in particular, for being this year’s sponsor!
